Join us for a panel discussion on how to use technology and AI to improve efficiency, productivity and safety in BC's Construction Industry.

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing the way we work. The construction industry is no different. Across the project lifecycle, everyone is having to try new approaches - all focused on improving how projects are planned and executed. Come hear from panelists in our industry as they share their journey with AI. Our panel includes UBC Professor Tony Yang, Architect Sina Karma from Pomerleau and Lawyer Scott Lamb from Clark Wilson LLP. The event will be moderated by consultant Shawn Gray from ConstructIQ.

Panelists:

Prof. Tony T.Y. Yang, Ph.D., P.Eng., F.CAE, is an expert in performance-based design, structural simulation, and resilient infrastructure. A fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and Director at UBC’s Smart Infrastructure cluster, he serves on key national committees, including the Standing Committee for Earthquake Design and S16. He has received prestigious awards, including the 2020 Meritorious Achievement Award from Engineers & Geoscientists BC and the 2019 Technology Award from the New Zealand Concrete Society.

Sina Karimi is a technologist leading Research and Development at Pomerleau’s aXLab, focusing on robotics and innovation in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. With a background in architecture and construction, he combines creative and technical expertise to develop automated solutions that enhance project efficiency. Sina holds a Bachelor's in Architectural Engineering from the University of Tehran and a Master's in Construction Engineering from ÉTS. His work, recognized in prestigious journals, explores robotics and AI to revolutionize AEC processes, driving the adoption of advanced technologies in construction.

Scott Lamb is a partner at Clark Wilson, LLP. He is the Co-Chair and senior member of Clark Wilson’s Infrastructure, Procurement and Construction practice group. Scott has practiced in the area of construction law for over 25 years, acting for clients throughout the construction chain: large owners (both institutional public sector and private sector clients), general contractors, specialized contractors, suppliers, architects, engineers and consultants.  Scott’s construction law practice encompasses all aspects of contract drafting and negotiations, dispute resolution and litigation. He has appeared as counsel in cases at the trial and appellate level. Best Lawyers® has repeatedly recognized Scott in Canada for his expertise in public procurement and litigation. Scott was also invited last year by the Industry Committee of the Canadian Federal Parliamentary to give submissions on Bill C-27 concerning the reforms to Canadian privacy legislation and the introduction of new legislation for artificial intelligence.
