British Columbia’s oldest hospital, Royal Columbian Hospital is undergoing a significant redevelopment that will be completed in three phases. Phase 2, the acute care tower is currently being constructed by Ellis Don Design Builders (EDDB).
The new 350-bed acute care tower which also includes a new emergency department, surgical suite, radiology and cardiology suites, maternity, paediatrics, and neonatal intensive care units, is directly connected to the existing hospital.
Date: April 13, 2023
Time: 3:30pm (Arrive 15 minutes in advance for a mandatory safety orientation)
Safety:
The tour will be conducted in an active construction site. Mandatory personal protection equipment (PPE) is required by all participants: CSA hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility vest, and a minimum 6" high, steel toed boots as, well as general purpose gloves. Before accessing the site, EDDB will deliver a short safety orientation to ensure that all participants are aware of the procedure in the event of an emergency.
Recommended Access to Site:
There is absolutely no parking on site or in the neighbourhood, however the site is easily accessed by public transit and is adjacent to Sapperton Skytrain station.
Meeting Point:
We will gather at Gate 6 which is located on the south side of the hospital, off of Keary St, by the Mental Health and Substance Use facility.
