The British Columbia Construction Roundtable invites members to attend our March 2021 Virtual Tour: Centerm Expansion Project Overview. 

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and design-build contractor Centennial Expansion Partners will present on the Centerm Expansion Project and the South Shore Access Project. The presentation will cover the significant improvements to the Centerm marine container terminal in Vancouver and associated roadways to help meet anticipated near-term demand for container trade through the Port of Vancouver. The speakers will provide an update on construction activities, and will touch on project successes, complexities, and challenges. Join us on Thursday, 25 March 2021 and bring your questions for our guests.

Speakers include:

Gilles Assier, Director, Container Terminal Construction Vancouver Fraser Port Authority 

Gilles Assier is the Director, Container Terminal Construction of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. Mr. Assier currently leads the Centerm Expansion Project and South Shore Access Project together valued at several hundred million dollars, as well as the Port Habitat Enhancement Program in charge of creating or enhancing habitats to facilitate future port growth. Mr. Assier joined the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority in 2008 as Project Director, Transportation & Logistics and led numerous complex enterprise-wide projects of significance to VFPA and its stakeholders. Assier was responsible for the Project Definition phase for the Low Level Road project on the North Shore, and led the permitting activities and Indigenous consultation for major construction projects including the Environmental Assessment of the Robert Bank Terminal 2 project and the signature of several Mutual Benefits Agreement with local Indigenous groups. During his 27 year career, Mr. Assier has held project and program manager role for several high-tech and technology organizations in Europe, USA and Canada. Mr. Assier holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's degree in Management France, and is also a PMI Certified Project Management Professional. Gord Ruffo P.Eng., Project Manager, Centerm Expansion Project and South Shore Access Project 

Gord is the Project Manager overseeing the construction of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s Centerm Expansion Project and the South Shore Access Project. Gord has over 40 years of experience in the construction industry and has delivered large infrastructure projects that include new construction and upgrades of highways, bridges, and ports. He has worked on behalf of owners as well as contractors in both public and private sectors, and as a result, he has developed a broad understanding of construction-related issues. Gord approaches each project with the acknowledgement that challenges are inevitable in any project and firmly believes effective teamwork between owners, contractors and stakeholders is the most efficient solution to overcoming such challenges. 

Joaquin Fernandez, MEng (Civil), Construction Director of Centennial Expansion Partners (CXP)

Joaquin Fernandez is the Construction Director of Centennial Expansion Partners (CXP), the design builder for Vancouver Fraser Port Authority's Centerm Expansion Project and South Shore Access Project. Mr. Fernandez has over 20 years of civil engineering and construction management experience in North America and internationally. His construction experience includes tunnelling, highways, structures and marine works. Mr. Fernandez holds a Masters of Civil Engineering from the University of Madrid, and he is a member of the Spanish Association of Civil Engineers.
