Meet David Black: a very successful BC entrepreneur, engineer and very unlikely champion for an oil refinery. And yet, with a singular vision, passion and drive, David has continued to advocate for and pursue the construction of an oil refinery in Kitimat. David will talk to us about why he has chosen to take this high risk, multi billion project forward from concept to implementation, the steps taken to date, the present state of the project, the anticipated time frame to commencement of construction, the issues and the solutions.
David Black in the President of Black Press, the largest privately owned newspaper company in Canada, with its head office in BC and 150 papers in Western Canada and parts of the US. David graduated from civil engineering at UBC which why a multibillion dollar mega project may not intimidate him. He was instrumental in getting the Business Department established at U Vic and acted as an advisor to that faculty. In 2007 David was U Vic’s Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2009 he was inducted into the Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame. He has made significant community and philanthropic contributions.
