Dr. Ali Azizian is a Principal Specialist – Geotechnical/Seismic with Tetra Tech Canada in Vancouver, BC. He has consulting and project management experience in geotechnical design and construction of bridge and building foundations, pipelines, and embankment dams. He specializes in seismic soil-structure interaction analysis. His project experience includes: Evergreen and Canada Line Rapid Transit projects, Port Mann and Golden Ears Bridges, as well as the proposed Kitimat and Pacific NorthWest LNG plants.

Mary is an Architect and Associate Vice President with HDR. With 20+ years of experience, Mary has led the design of many award-winning community recreation facilities, including aquatics, ice, fitness and more. In addition to local venues, Mary has traveled internationally to give presentations on various issues related to sports, recreation, community facility design, universal design and also how community engagement is being integrated into the architectural process. Amanda Farrell

Amanda Farrell is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Transportation Investment Corporation (TI Corp). Amanda took on this role in December 2018 to lead the management and delivery of major transportation projects, including the new Pattullo Bridge, the Kicking Horse Canyon Project – Phase 4 and the Broadway Subway. Prior to TI Corp, Amanda Farrell served as the President and CEO of Partnerships BC for five years. Amanda focused the organization’s culture on client responsiveness and strengthening relationships with current and future clients in the development of major public infrastructure projects from hospitals to courthouses to transit lines. Amanda also served as Chief Project Officer on the now completed Evergreen SkyTrain Line in Vancouver during that time. Earlier in her career, Amanda gained extensive public policy and operational experience in the UK before moving to British Columbia. Amanda was honoured by her peers as the recipient of the 2018 Women’s Infrastructure Network Outstanding Leader award.

Ryan MacPherson

Ryan MacPherson, P.Eng., is Vice-President, Roads, Bridges and Ports, for SNC-Lavalin. He is a structural engineer with over 20 years of experience in the design and construction of infrastructure projects, mainly in the field of fixed maritime structures and port facilities, throughout Canada and around the world. In his current role, Ryan is responsible for leading the operations and setting the strategic direction of the Roads, Bridges and Ports group for SNC-Lavalin in Western Canada. Partnering with SNC-Lavalin’s Infrastructure Construction sector, the group provides end-to-end solutions for its clients – from making equity investments and arranging financing, to providing engineering, construction and operations and maintenance services. One of his more notable accomplishments was leading the development of the 45,000 sq.m. elevated marine foundation for the iconic Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion.

Diego Mandelbaum is a Principal with Stantec and the Business Center Sector Leader (BCSL) for the firm’s 350+ person Buildings Engineering and Architecture practice in British Columbia. As a mechanical engineer, Diego brings a large variety of project experience providing management, design, and construction administration services for Civic, Institutional, Industrial, and Commercial buildings. Specializing in HVAC and related energy systems design, Diego prides himself on delivering well-coordinated projects for his clients that lead to change-free constructions. Diego also designs plumbing, steam, medical gas, and fire suppression systems. Having a passion for sustainability and energy efficient design, Diego received his LEED AP with a Building Design + Construction specialty in 2011 and strives to incorporate sustainability principles into all of his projects such as renewable energy sources, heat recovery, and passive design strategies. In 2013, Diego formed the Okanagan Section of ASHRAE. and served as the Section President for the group which has now grown to over 60 members. In 2017, Diego completed the CanPHI Passive House Designer course. Diego is also a guest lecturer for UBCO’s 4th year Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning class and sits on the Industry and Alumni Committee for the for the Faculty of Engineering at UBCO.

Cheryl Nelms is the Deputy General Manager of Engineering Services at the City of Vancouver — a department of 1,900 employees that oversees more than 50% of the City’s $2.8 billion capital budget. Currently, she leads the city’s engineering work in the $2.8 billion Broadway Subway project, and the redevelopment of Northeast False Creek, Vancouver’s last waterfront destination area, which is slated to deliver $1.7 billion in public benefits. Cheryl is an accomplished leader and professional engineer with over 19 years of experience, including senior executive roles in federal government. She has completed a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Project Management) and has a proven track record in project and financial management, complex labour relations, leading strategic transformation initiatives, and delivery of major infrastructure projects, especially capital projects that include public private partnerships. She is an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia, and is a frequently sought-after expert and speaker at conferences and inter-government committees of national interest.

Ahmet (Met) Ulker, P.Eng., FEC, is a seasoned electrical engineer, who has participated in SkyTrain Millennium Line, SkyTrain Evergreen Line and Canada Line Transit Projects. Met has considerable experience on large projects in the transit/transportation, commercial, industrial and institutional sectors. His experience covers major projects for universities, colleges, K-12 schools, health care facilities, office towers, retail malls, recreational facilities and other similar civic facilities. Met has managed projects in Canada, Turkey, US, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Malaysia and Mongolia. While he has practiced in Canada for the last 38 years in various capacities in well-known large multi-disciplinary firms, he found his calling in AES Engineering, where bureaucracy had no place and freedom reigns. Currently Met is semi-retired but only working on Transit projects.

Jesse is Director of Project Management and Business Development with RAM. Jesse graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Civil Engineering. As a Project Management Professional (PMP) and Risk Management Professional (RMP), Jesse is experienced in all areas of project and construction leadership overseeing large, complex, high-profile infrastructure, utilities, and transportation projects. Jesse has an intimate knowledge with multiple project delivery methods, project management models, and scope, financial, schedule, and risk management tools and techniques. During Jesse’s career, he has developed an ability to understand his client’s “why”, work collaboratively leading teams, and implement successful strategic initiatives for multiple project stakeholders and groups. With a background as a Professional Engineer in Canada (P.Eng.) and the United States (PE), a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP), and a MMCD Certified Contract Administrator (MMCD CCA), Jesse has the ability to lead projects effectively, incorporate sustainable design and construction principles, interpret and administer contracts, and understand the technical aspects of his projects. His effective written and verbal communication, workshop facilitation, and engaging presentation skills to both technical and non-technical audiences, allow him to serve as a knowledgeable leader and advisor to his clients.
