Ali Azizian

Dr. Ali Azizian is a Principal Specialist – Geotechnical/Seismic with Tetra Tech Canada in Vancouver, BC. He has consulting and project management experience in geotechnical design and construction of bridge and building foundations, pipelines, and embankment dams. He specializes in seismic soil-structure interaction analysis. His project experience includes: Evergreen and Canada Line Rapid Transit projects, Port Mann and Golden Ears Bridges, as well as the proposed Kitimat and Pacific NorthWest LNG plants.

Elisa Brandts


Elisa Brandts, Architect, is BC Managing Leader – Buildings for Stantec. Prior to moving to Stantec she was a Managing Principal at Architecture49 (formerly PBK Architects Inc.). Elisa is passionate about designing livable, sustainable cities and focuses her expertise on large building projects in the transit and transportation, and sports and entertainment sectors. She can apply her passions to her work at Stantec collaborating across disciplines and industries to bring buildings, energy and resource, environmental, and infrastructure projects to life.

Harvie Buitelaar

Harvie is Global Director of Aviation at Hatch Ltd, and Hatch’s former Vancouver Region Manager, Infrastructure. Harvie is a professional civil engineer with over 18 years of experience in civil engineering and airports engineering, planning and project management at airports and aviation facilities across Canada and the USA. He is also a Director of the BC Aviation Council.

David Collings

David is a Principal with Collings Johnston Inc, technical management consultants. Currently he represents owners on major infrastructure construction projects. He oversees project development and implementation including project controls, governance, procurement and strategy. David also provides business development and proposal management services to contractors and concessionaires for major projects. He has a bachelors in business management and a master’s degree in construction management from the University of Bath, U.K. He is a certified Project Management Professional with the Project Management Institute (PMI). David is actively involved in the heavy civil construction industry as a member of BCCR, PMI and the Canadian Design Build Institute. He is also chair of ACEC-BC’s Small Firms Council.

Simon Daniels

BA Blacktop Ltd. Is a major Design-Builder and General Contractor for transportation infrastructure in British Columbia. As a professional Engineer with over nineteen years of industry experience, Simon possesses a strong background in stakeholder relationships and a long history of successful infrastructure development. At BA Blacktop, Simon is responsible for the procurement and management of Transportation and Infrastructure design-build and/or design-bid-build Infrastructure projects throughout British Columbia.

Ryan MacPherson

Ryan MacPherson, P.Eng., is Vice-President, Ports & Marine, Infrastructure Engineering for SNC-Lavalin. He is a structural engineer with nearly 20 years of experience in the design and construction of fixed maritime structures and port facilities throughout Canada and around the world. In his current role, Ryan is responsible for leading the operations and setting the strategic direction of the Ports & Marine group, a part of SNC-Lavalin’s Infrastructure sector which provides end-to-end solutions for its clients – from making equity investments and arranging financing, to providing engineering, construction and operations and maintenance services. One of his more notable accomplishments was leading the development of the 45,000 sq.m. elevated marine foundation for the iconic Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion.

Cheryl Nelms

Cheryl is the Deputy City Engineer for the City of Vancouver. With annual budgets totaling over $500 million and 1,900 staff, she is responsible for capital project construction and delivery in Engineering Services. Engineering Services is also mandated with a variety of planning and regulatory functions and plays a central role in the day-to-day functioning of the city. As the largest city department, Engineering delivers a complex array of essential public services while implementing an ambitious policy agenda to become the greenest City in the world by 2020. Cheryl received her Engineering degree from McGill University and a PhD in Construction Management from the University of British Columbia. Cheryl is also an adjunct professor at the University Of British Columbia Department Of Civil Engineering and on the Board of Mosaic which empowers newcomers to fully participate in Canadian Society.

Jesse Unke

As a Project Management Professional (PMP) and Risk Management Professional (RMP), Jesse is experienced in all areas of project and construction leadership overseeing large, complex, high-profile municipal infrastructure and transportation projects. Jesse has an intimate knowledge with multiple project delivery methods, project management models, and scope, financial, schedule, and risk management tools and techniques. During Jesse’s career, he has developed an ability to understand his client’s “why”, work collaboratively leading teams, and implement successful strategic initiatives for multiple project stakeholders and groups.

Jeannie Bates, BA, BDes., is the Executive Director of the BC Construction Roundtable. She brings her expertise in project planning, communications and management to this position. Jeannie has worked on numerous special projects for the City of Vancouver including special commissions on urban planning and electoral reform as well as community engagement and public processes for cultural and ethnic communities.
